This fall, IESBVI participated in the first Abacus Bee, sponsored by American Printing House (APH) for the Blind. More information about the event at this link. Students from Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey and Washington participated in their own states and 30 students earned a spot to the National Abacus Bee Finals held late March in Louisville, Ken.
Of the six IESBVI students who participated in the national event, four placed in the top three in their division finals. Students, their teachers of the visually impaired and their place are listed below:
- Dylan Carter (Ashley Dougherty) – First place medal in the Blasters Division
- Jordyn Robbins (Shelley Smith) – Earned medal for being a Finalist in the Flyers Division
- Genti Wyatt (4PLUS teachers) – Third place medal in the Movers Division
- Kayla Bartholomew (Sara Zimmerman) – Second place medal in the Riders Division
- Jaidyn Burge (Carla Long) – Third place medal in the Starters Division
- Kaiden Vollstedt (Staci Corbitt) – Earned a medal for being a Finalist in the Starters Division
