2025-26 School Year Vacancies:
Teacher of the Visually Impaired
Primary Function:
Participates as a member of multidisciplinary teams; involved with evaluations; educational planning; development of Individualized Educational Plans (IEP); program implementation. Provides written reports and documentation. May lead IEP meetings.
In collaboration with Area Education Agencies (AEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs), and using an itinerant model, the Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) provides appropriate support and/or instruction to students with visual impairments, in their local schools and home settings.
Formulates appropriate educational objectives, activities, evaluation, goals, and instruction.
Reports student growth and programs to parents periodically.
Applicant must have satisfactory criminal history, sexual offenders, child and adult abuse registry background checks before hire.
Compensation: BA degree – $47,500-$73,600; MA degree – $55,700-$85,900
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education plus experience using a computer and other office equipment required. Candidates must meet State of Iowa teacher licensure requirements with an endorsement in visual impairment by the time of appointment. Candidates possessing a special education endorsement may also qualify but must complete the visual impairment endorsement within three years of appointment (financial assistance available for necessary coursework). Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in education and experience working with students who are blind and visually impaired preferred..

STEM Consultant
Primary Function:
In collaboration with Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired (IESBVI) teachers and with AEA and LEA staff, the STEM Consultant provides leadership, consultation, professional development, technical assistance and support in the broad area of STEM. This includes areas such as effective instructional strategies, modeling and coaching for effective instruction, the selection of materials and ongoing consultation in STEM related content areas for students who are blind or visually impaired. Support services are also extended to parents and families.
Applicant must have satisfactory criminal history, sexual offenders, child and adult abuse registry background checks before hire.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education plus at least four years of experience in teaching science or related content area required. Demonstrated ability to provide effective educational services including the selection, training, demonstration, and coaching of science curriculum also required. Candidates must have or be eligible to obtain valid Iowa Teaching License with endorsement in science by time of appointment. Candidates must also be able to travel regularly within the State of Iowa; be able to use a computer, telephone, and other office equipment. Orientation and Mobility Specialist
Primary Function:
In collaboration with Area Education Agencies (AEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs), and using an itinerant model, the Orientation and Mobility Specialist provides direct and consultative orientation and mobility services to students with visual impairments, in their local school and home settings.
Formulates appropriate educational objective, activities, evaluation, goals, and instruction.
Reports student growth and programs to parents periodically.
Participates as a member of multidisciplinary teams; involved with evaluations; educational planning.

Compensation: BA degree – $48,400-$75,100; MA degree – $56,800-$87,600
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in orientation and mobility plus experience using a computer and other office equipment required. Candidates must meet State of Iowa orientation and mobility specialist licensure requirements by the time of appointment. The ability to travel throughout a designated region within Iowa on a daily basis also required.
