IESBVI Family Summit

The annual spring family event offered by IESBVI is changing. Families may recall Spring Family Conference, which was an all-day learning event for parents with fun activities for children. This event is changing into Family Summit, and will be offered two different Saturdays in separate locations, for two-and-a-half hours. Content is the same on both dates; just choose which date or location is best for you!

Although the format of Family Summit will be new, what remains the same is the sense of belonging families can gain from attending. “There are all kinds of kiddos and families who attend with at least one common item being a child who is blind or visually impaired,” said a parent who attended a past Spring Family Conference. “The connections we make with other families are priceless.”

Families are again encouraged to make these connections as they gather together for learning at Family Summit. Children who are served by IESBVI and attend with parents will have focused time on practicing self-care skills. Siblings aged 8 – 13 can attend Sibshop, which is designed just for those who have a brother or sister who has a disability. Sibshop provides opportunities for kids to process their feelings in a fun and supportive space. Parents will learn how to increase a child’s independence in the home.

Just like Spring Family Conference, Family Summit is free; registration is required.

Families can choose from either:
Saturday, March 28, 1-3:30 p.m. in West Des Moines
Saturday, April 18, 1-3:30 p.m. in Cedar Rapids
