October 15 is Blind Americans Equality Day, also celebrated as National White Cane Safety Day. This day is set aside to recognize individuals within the blind and visually impaired community for their declaration and pursuit of independence.

Activities scheduled for IESBVI students during October:
- White Cane Day Celebration kits in local school buildings across the state
- Outdoor fall fun at Village Creek Bible Camp in Lansing
- Enjoying full access to Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines
- Family fall fun day at Bloomsbury Farms near Cedar Rapids
- Beep Baseball – our version of America’s favorite pastime with the Dubuque Senior High baseball team
- Walk through the Council Bluffs campus led by IESBVI 4PLUS students
- Walk through the park and eat pizza in Mount Pleasant
- Explore harvest machines, tools and crops at the John Deere Pavilion in Moline, Ill.
- Cider making at Hartman Reserve in Black Hawk County
